Traditions and school spirit are two of the qualities that make TCU such a fun and unique place to go to college. As Horned Frogs, there are many special traditions that we value as members of the TCU community. Here are my top 10 favorite traditions that I think make TCU unique!

Students Enjoying Christmas Tree Lighting
1. Holiday Celebrations

By far my favorite event is TCU's annual Christmas Tree Lighting, where the TCU and Fort Worth community come together to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season! This event features more than just a traditional tree lighting, with special guests Drew and Ellie Holcomb leading the entertainment for the evening. You may even get the chance to take a picture with SuperFrog Santa!

In addition to this event, many groups on campus gather to celebrate other significant holidays, including Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. TCU's Religious and Spiritual Life are one of the groups who host events for students to learn about and celebrate different cultures.

2. Frog Fountain: The Flow of Knowledge

One of the most popular landmarks on campus is Frog Fountain that sets the perfect backdrop to the campus commons! The fountain features four lily pads that are positioned to be different heights that signifies the flow of knowledge from our seniors (represented by the tallest lily pad) all the way to our first-years (the shortest lily pad).

3. Riff-Ram Chant

This chant dates back to when TCU was a part of the Southwest Conference, as one of the first colleges to be apart of intercollegiate sports. The Riff-Ram chant is rumored to be the oldest chant in the Southwest Conference (being over 100 years old!). You will see and hear students and TCU football fans yelling this chant loud and proud on game days: "Riff Ram Bah Zoo!"

4. Fireworks

No TCU event is complete without some fireworks (that's right, we take pyrotechnics seriously around here)! Every Horned Frog touchdown on game day includes a firework display to celebrate! Fireworks bring the magic to life at TCU!

5. Hit the Frog Horn!

Sticking with the game day traditions, another way we like to celebrate our victories is with the Frog Horn. Our TCU Rangers spirit team blows the horn every time we score a touchdown at a home football game to celebrate our team's successes!

6. The Lucky Frog Statue

Have a big test coming up? Fear not, the Lucky Frog statue was made to give you a little extra luck! All you have to do is walk over to the area between Sadler and Reed Halls and rub the frog's nose before taking your exam! This will come in handy for our current Horned Frogs preparing to take their final exams in just a few weeks!

7. Frog Camp

For 30 years, Frog Camp has been providing new students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the TCU community by meeting other fellow Horned Frogs! With camps happening all over the world and right here in Fort Worth, there are so many ways for students to get plugged in and learn more about life as a Horned Frog. Read more about what to expect from Frog Camp here!

8. Frogs First

As our first-year students prepare to start college, Frogs First serves as a fun way for students to continue building their community and becoming knowledgeable about the resources available to them. One of the best activities that occurs during this time is Family Dinner, where new students get to enjoy a meal with faculty and staff. For more information about Frogs First, visit the event's website.

Fall Concert in the Campus Commons

9. Campus Concerts

We love to have fun at TCU, and one of the ways we do that is by hosting concerts with some well-known artists. Every fall, SGA (Student Government Association) puts on a concert with a popular artist that students know and love! There are also concerts that happen throughout the year, including Frogstock, a music event that happens in the Campus Commons every spring semester!

Students at Commencement

10. Commencement

Perhaps the most anticipated moment of your college career is Commencement. During this special ceremony, you will walk across the stage and receive your diploma! Some of the most popular traditions include the pinning and hooding ceremonies for graduates of the College of Education, Nursing graduates, and those graduating with a degree from the AddRan College of Liberal Arts.

From fun and silly traditions to intentional community building, there truly is no place like TCU!
