Frog Favorites: Dining Destinations in Fort Worth
While TCU’s campus has plenty of dining options, sometimes students crave a change of scenery, and Horned Frogs are in just the right place! Fort Worth’s food scene is as vibrant and diverse as the city itself, offering everything from hole-in-the-wall coffee shops where you can catch up with friends to trendy new spots perfect for a night out.
We asked current students to share their go-to off-campus spots, so you’ll know exactly where to head next time hunger strikes.
Hudson House

Colin Foster ’26, a finance and business information systems student from Orange County, CA, considers Hudson House his go-to spot for a nice dinner with friends or family.
“It is the kind of place that works for any mood, whether I want a quick bite after being out all day or a longer dinner where I can sit back and chill,” he says.
Colin’s top recommendation is the steak frites, though he notes you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
“The food is always reliable, and the atmosphere is laid back but still feels a little more put-together than the usual student hangouts. Some of my best nights in Fort Worth started or ended at Hudson House, which is why it has become such a favorite for me.”
Terry Black’s BBQ

When it comes to barbecue, Ryann Holley ’27, a finance with real estate major student from Georgetown, Texas, swears by Terry Black’s.
“Terry Black's is the epitome of good Texas BBQ! Their brisket and all of the sides hit the spot every single time,” she says.
Her usual order includes sliced brisket, creamed corn, mac ’n’ cheese and banana pudding. Ryann says it’s her first choice when hosting visiting family and friends and always recommends it to anyone searching for authentic southern barbecue in Fort Worth.
Match Point Coffee

For Kaj Quirijns ’27, a communication studies student from Unteraegeri, Switzerland, Match Point Coffee is the perfect spot to start the day.
“As a member of TCU’s Men’s Tennis Team, I especially love the café’s tennis-themed aesthetic,” he says.
Kaj recommends the iced latte with almond milk as his go-to morning pick-me-up.
Match Point also stocks the team’s collaboration with Bored and Thirsty, an electrolyte water designed to boost hydration, making it a favorite for athletes and students alike.
Coco Shrimp

Coco Shrimp has quickly become a regional favorite that never fails to hit the spot. While the menu revolves around shrimp, the fresh salad and seasoned rice elevate every plate.
Sydney Jansen ’26, a journalism and film, television and digital media student from Jupiter, FL, swears by the coconut shrimp plate with the classic rice and salad duo. She also highlights the poppyseed dressing as a must-try.
“The portions are generous enough to satisfy any craving. I also love how customizable the menu is. It’s easy to make every order feel personal,” Jansen says.
Curly’s Frozen Custard

For Grace Hartenstein ’26, a strategic communication and sociology major from Millsboro, DE, nothing beats Curly’s when it comes to satisfying a sweet tooth.
“Curly’s is the absolute best place for a sweet treat, especially after a long day of class! They have a huge menu that allows you to customize your order exactly how you like it,” she says.
Her go-to is the chocolate custard topped with Oreos and brownie bites. Grace also loves the atmosphere, whether it’s enjoying the patio with friends on a warm evening or swinging by the drive-through for a quick snack.
Honorable Mentions
Of course, there are more Fort Worth favorites than we could fit into one short list. These may not have made the spotlight this time, but they’re well worth adding to your Fort Worth food tour.
Students give a nod to local staples like Eatzi’s for lunch between classes, Flower Child for vegan and gluten free options, and Gemelle for some Italian cuisine in a beautiful garden setting.
When you’re planning a trip to Fort Worth and TCU, don’t stick to just the on-campus options. Make time to check out these student-recommended spots, too. Each one offers a taste of the city that Horned Frogs have come to love, from quick coffee runs to late-night study fuel with friends.
The next time you visit, let your dining plans be inspired by the students who know Fort Worth best.
