Are you ready to take the leap and join the Horned Frog family? Applying to college
can feel like a big task, but we’ve got your back. These tips will help you feel confident,
prepared and ready to show us the very best version of you.
1. Start writing your essay early
Your personal essay is your chance to shine beyond grades and test scores. Give yourself plenty of time to brainstorm, draft and revise. A thoughtful essay that sounds like you can make your application stand out – and starting early means less stress when deadlines roll around.
2. Ask for recommendation letters sooner than later
At TCU, we require two recommendation letters: one from a teacher and one from your high school counselor. Ask them early, so they have time to craft thoughtful letters that highlight your strengths and growth. (Pro tip: give them a brag sheet or short list of your activities so they have plenty to write about!)
3. Schedule a campus tour – or take the virtual tour
Seeing TCU in person is one of the best ways to picture yourself here. From our iconic Frog Fountain to cheering on our football team at Amon G. Carter Stadium, visiting makes everything real. If you can’t make it to Fort Worth yet, check out our virtual tour for a glimpse into our community, facilities and traditions.
4. Talk about financial aid early
College is an investment, so start the money conversation now. Explore TCU’s financial aid options, grants and work-study opportunities. The earlier you plan, the more confident you’ll feel when it’s time to make your decision. Learn more about TCU’s Office of Scholarships & Student Financial Aid. (ICMYI: FAFSA and the CSS Profile opens October 1.)
5. Hunt for scholarships everywhere
From local clubs and organizations to national programs, there are scholarships waiting for you. Even small ones can add up to make a big difference. Don’t forget to check out TCU’s scholarship opportunities, too!
6. Show demonstrated interest and connect with us
Engage with us online, email your admission counselor or ask questions when you visit. It shows us you’re excited to be here! Want the inside scoop? 7. Be yourself – seriously
We look at the whole you: academics, activities, leadership, creativity and personality. Highlight what makes you unique. Whether it’s an unusual hobby, a community project or a leadership role, don’t be afraid to brag a little. The best applications are authentic. Be true to yourself – that’s what makes your application shine.
We can’t wait to get to know you through your application! If you have questions, email us at frogmail@tcu.edu or reach out to your TCU Admission Counselor.
