Real Talk: What Matters in the College Search
Every student’s college search comes with big questions and even bigger expectations. It is easy to get overwhelmed by everything universities offer, but what matters most is finding the place that feels right for you. That is why TCU’s Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Heath Einstein and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kathy Cavins-Tull hosted Real Talk: What Matters in the College Search.
This livestream was created for students and families looking for clear, honest answers. Broadcast on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, the session featured an in-depth Q&A, helpful insights, dad jokes and, of course, a few giveaways.
Heath and Kathy are experts in helping students find their fit, and they broke down the parts of the college experience that are often overlooked. Their biggest message was simple: the right college goes far beyond academics or rankings.
Choose a University That Values You From the Start
TCU values its students long before they arrive on campus. From orientation to Frog Camp, we are committed to helping new Horned Frogs feel confident, connected and supported from the very beginning. As Kathy shared, one of the most important parts of the college search is finding a place that feels like home. Here is how TCU helps students build that sense of belonging:
- First-Year Orientation welcomes our newest Horned Frogs to an on-campus, two-day program where they learn about TCU, explore resources, meet fellow classmates and register for classes.
- Frog Camp is a once-in-a-lifetime TCU tradition where incoming students make new friends, experience life as a Horned Frog and dance the night away at our iconic themed events. Frog Camp destinations vary each year, and students can follow New Student and Family Programs on Instagram to see where they might travel.
- Frogs First is a unique TCU tradition that brings our newest horned frogs together with faculty and staff over a meal and a celebration in the campus commons to kick off the new school year.
Campus Life Matters and So Does the City You Call Home
Your first two years at TCU will be spent living on campus in our highly rated residence halls, ranked No. 6 for Best College Dorms by The Princeton Review.
First-year students choose from 14 housing options, including classic triple, double and single, as well as double and private suites. Students in Greek life may also have the option to live in their chapter facility if their organization offers on-campus housing. For more information regarding on-campus housing, check out TCU's Housing & Residence Life.
TCU is also continuing to grow. By fall 2027, the university will add 2,450 new beds on the east side of campus to house first-year and sophomore students. Market-rate housing on Berry Street is planned as well, bringing 779 apartment-style beds, restaurants, shops and a vibrant campus town atmosphere for students. Beyond campus, Fort Worth quickly becomes home for our Horned Frogs. As the 11th largest and one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, Fort Worth offers the perfect blend of city excitement and Texas charm. Students enjoy everything from the scenic Trinity Trails to a world-class arts district, professional sports across Dallas-Fort Worth and an incredible food scene. With the historic Stockyards, museums, live music and a lively downtown, Fort Worth truly becomes a home away from home.
