TCU's Jessica Mascote and her familyFor international students exploring college in the U.S., having a trusted guide makes all the difference. Jessica Mascote is one of those guides.

Originally from Oklahoma City, Jessica found her way into international admissions when her role began combining both domestic and global recruitment. Over time, she realized how meaningful the work was, especially given her family roots in Mexico. Today, she supports students from Mexico and the Caribbean Islands, regions that connect deeply to her personal story.

Jessica describes TCU’s international community as close-knit, welcoming and supportive. Students look out for one another, get involved early and quickly feel at home.

"One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing students arrive on campus and thrive, build friendships, gain confidence and making TCU their own."

For students considering TCU, Jessica encourages starting early. She recommends connecting with an admission counselor, asking questions and attending information sessions during the final year of high school. As a bilingual counselor fluent in English and Spanish, she enjoys working closely with students and families to help them navigate the admission process with clarity and confidence.

Travel is an important part of Jessica’s work, and Mexico City is her favorite destination. Visiting family, sharing meals and reconnecting with her roots make each trip especially meaningful. And she never misses the chance to enjoy one of her favorite comforts while traveling: fresh, homemade tortillas.

What Jessica loves most about TCU is how connected the campus feels to the city of Fort Worth. It’s a medium-sized community where students, faculty and staff are genuinely invested in one another.

"This sense of care, I believe, is what sets TCU apart for international students," says Jessica. "From day one, students are supported, encouraged and empowered to succeed both inside and outside the classroom."

If she had to describe TCU in three words, Jessica would choose invested, welcoming, and supportive.

One tradition she looks forward to every year is the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, a moment that brings the entire campus community together.

Outside of work, Jessica enjoys dancing, going for runs and exploring arts and crafts. Those creative outlets help her recharge and bring balance, the same balance she hopes students will find during their own TCU journey.
