“TCU is too expensive.”

It’s a common misconception many students and families hear when considering Texas Christian University. In reality, financial aid and scholarship opportunities at TCU are abundant. In fact, 85% of TCU students receive some form of financial aid or scholarship support through TCU’s Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid.

All applicants are automatically considered for academic merit scholarships, which recognize outstanding scholarly achievement. Awards can range from partial scholarships to full-tuition opportunities. In addition, TCU offers grants, loans and work-study programs that help make a TCU education possible for students from a wide range of financial backgrounds.

While college is certainly a financial investment, it is also a personal one. At TCU, students gain far more than a degree. They gain mentorship, opportunities and experiences that shape their future long after graduation.

Still wondering if TCU could be a possibility? Hear from a few Horned Frogs who have experienced the impact of scholarships and financial assistance firsthand.

A Community of Scholars

For Anish Doshi ’26 from Beaumont, Texas studying biology and political science in the John V. Roach Honors College, receiving the Chancellor’s Scholarship shaped his entire experience at TCU.

“Being a Chancellor’s Scholar has been the opportunity of a lifetime,” Doshi says. “This program has allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals who are committed to bettering themselves and the community around them each and every day.”

He says the scholarship provided much more than financial assistance.

“My scholarship was more than monetary assistance. It was a dynamic support system that stayed with me throughout college,” Doshi says. “It has allowed me to explore my passions while setting me up for the future.”

A Personal and Intentional Process

Grant Mastin ’26 from Jackson, Ohio studying finance and political science, is both a Chancellor’s and a Clark Scholar. For Mastin, the scholarship process stood out because of how personal and intentional it felt from the very beginning.

“From the very beginning it was clear that TCU wasn’t simply evaluating numbers on a transcript or activities on a résumé. It wanted to understand who I was, what shaped me, what motivated me and what I hoped to accomplish in the future,” explains Mastin.

Mastin says receiving the scholarship gave him the freedom to fully pursue opportunities throughout college, including becoming a Neeley Fellow and continuing to grow his charity, Tackles for Tots.

“Receiving this scholarship allowed me to approach college with freedom freedom to say yes to opportunities that stretch me academically, professionally and personally,” he says.

Building Opportunities Through Support

For Destin Drummond ’25, a political science alumnus, track and field athlete and co-founder and president of the Black Student-Athlete Alliance, scholarship support helped create the foundation for his academic, athletic and leadership success at TCU.

“Scholarship support afforded me the opportunity to pursue academic and athletic excellence with little to no limitations,” Drummond says. “My scholarships were the foundation for all the opportunities I seized at TCU.”

Drummond also credits scholarship programs with helping him build meaningful relationships that have shaped his future.

Clark Scholars have the opportunity to meet their donors,” he explains. “I’ve had the privilege of developing real networks and friendships with the individuals who helped fund my education and those relationships have contributed to my pursuit of opportunities in athletics and sports law.”

Making the TCU Experience Possible

For Guadalupe Martinez ’28 a first-generation  speech-language pathology transfer student from Fort Worth, Texas, financial support made attending TCU feel possible from the moment she was admitted.

“Receiving additional scholarships was an incredible relief and a moment of pure joy,” Martinez says. “Knowing that TCU would cover most of my tuition meant I didn’t have to worry about taking out as many loans, which lifted a huge financial burden off my shoulders.”

Martinez says that support allowed her to fully experience campus life.

“My scholarship has given me the freedom and peace of mind to explore clubs, events and new opportunities without constantly worrying about finances or needing to work extra hours,” she explains.

Finding Belonging Through Scholarships

Amerie Stoker ’29 an educational studies and mathematics double major from Fort Worth, Texas, says receiving the Community Scholars scholarship was life-changing.

AMERIE STOKER TCU“College was never something that felt guaranteed or even possible,” Stoker says. “When I found out I received a full ride, it was an incredibly emotional moment. It felt like accomplishing something that once seemed impossible while also taking a huge financial burden off my parents.”

Through the Community Scholars program, Stoker says she has gained mentorship and opportunities that have shaped her experience.

“As a first-generation college student, having mentors who genuinely care about student success has made my transition to college much smoother,” she says. “It has helped me feel like I truly belong at TCU.”

Doors Opened Through Generosity

For Alexis Garcia ‘26, a journalism major with a Spanish minor, receiving her scholarship meant the opportunity to attend her dream school without overwhelming financial stress.

ALEXIS GARCIA TCU“It meant I could attend my dream school without spending the rest of my life in debt,” Garcia says. “It meant someone saw me as worthy and valuable enough to invest in my education and my TCU experience.”

Garcia says scholarships have also allowed her to fully embrace every opportunity at TCU.

“It’s helped me live a life of saying yes to as much as I can . Whether that’s sledding with my roommate on a snow day or helping a professor with a project, I don’t take my TCU experience for granted.”

One thing that surprised Garcia was how many additional scholarships become available once students arrive on campus.

“There are so many opportunities, from major-specific awards to background-based and everything in between,” Garcia explains. “You just have to keep an eye out and take advantage of them.”

Advice for Future Horned Frogs

For those who assume TCU may be financially out of reach, current Horned Frogs offer simple advice.

“I encourage any student who feels called to TCU not to rule it out prematurely,” Mastin says. “Apply, pursue scholarships and see what doors may open.”

At TCU, scholarships are not just financial awards. They are an investment in the students who will shape the future of the Horned Frog community.
